Do you know that old cliche, “you can’t see the forest for the trees?” I am sure you do. I’ve been pondering this famous cliche quite a bit lately. I coach my clients, and sometimes remind them, that the reason something slipped by them or was forgotten was because they are doing so many things at one time. After all, they are responsible for everything that happens in that business, aren’t they? Today, I have found myself in the same conundrum.

I am building this website, and while you may not see this post prior to it’s launch, trust me it was written in the middle of the forest while I was starring at a tree. I feel my head spinning. And, it is in these moments that I take great internal notes like how it feels, what emotions am I processing, what am thinking about, or how am I struggling. I use these notes to help guide my clients, because the truth is that consulting is a relationship between business professionals.

My clients and I have a relationship that is mutually beneficial. I learn from them, and they learn from me. I help them succeed, and simply by hiring me they help me succeed. I ensure this by being selective with my clients. I hope that doesn’t come off as cocky. I, simply put, want to work with people who I know have successful attitudes. People that will work towards their goals. It may sound counterintuitive, but this lesson is something I teach my clients every time we encounter a difficult potential customer, service partner, or potential employee.

The fact is that not every sale is worth it. This can be applied to a one on one relationship with a potential client who is not looking for a win win scenario, but would rather be proud of getting a great deal than pay for quality. You can also apply this to making personal decisions about your business. To use another cliche, you can only please some of the people some of the time.

Moral of the blog…this website isn’t built to attract everyone. The pages aren’t written to satisfy the most people, or to make myself seem omni-important to businesses. The fact is that everyone benefits it well paired relationships. I am going to follow my own advice. I am going to be me on this site. I am going to write the content for those who I will truly connect with, and who will understand my message, and can see value in what I can do for them.

As always…stay inspired,

What is a Digital Ninja? I’ll start with the simplest response. A Digital Ninja is a task assassin that uses digital tools to gracefully and seemingly effortlessly manage the mountains of information that flows into their inboxes, phones, tablets, and lives in general. What the hell does that mean?

It means that we all need a bit of fine tuning when it comes to our digital lives. We have lots of fancy devices that are supposed to make our lives easier, but more often than not we become slaves to our devices. They rule our time, and the cause us waste instead of ease. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way. I have developed these courses after helping dozens of small business owners become masters of their information flow.

Why ninjas? Because, who doesn’t want to be a ninja. They are masters of their craft who are cross trained in various amazing feats. They are graceful. They are masters of the tools they use, and because of their mastery they have deadly accuracy. And, they do what seems like the impossible. The Digital Ninja courses aren’t a fluffy overview of what you “could” do with the tools you already have, but rather Becoming A Digital Ninja is about what you “should” do with the tools you already have.

These courses are hands on working trainings in which you bring your device and we get to work. Each class has been created to get you from where you are to the next level of mastery of your information. Classes will begin to launch at the end of July 2011. As the DigitalNinja.com site is developed I will be providing free lessons, this blog addressing all sorts of fun and useful advice and tricks, and a detail of each class as they become available.

Stay inspired,

Marty
